Working with National Governments
Working in an advisory capacity to the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) (link exits this site), the UW-DMC provided educational assistance for the Latin American disaster management training program. Through the services of a GIS Science Adviser and a Geographer located in Washington, DC, the UW-DMC provides technical assistance for the disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness program of OFDA. Emergency assessment manuals were also developed for OFDA and the U.S. Bureau for Refugee Programs.
In 1997, the UW-DMC designed and facilitated a high-level workshop aimed at disaster preparedness and response policies in Mongolia. The workshop was sponsored by UNDP-Mongolia and participants included local UN agencies, Ministers from concerned Mongolian government bodies, and staff from Mongolian Civil Defense.
